Lean-to Conservatories

  • Our sleek and subtle lean-to conservatories are a perfect solution for those with height restrictions around their home. If you live in a bungalow or perhaps your space just isn’t quite right for a full conservatory, a lean-to conservatory provides the perfect go-between. Add extra living space, natural light, and a room with versatile use all in one.

A lean-to conservatory is a simpler take on the conservatory design, made up of three glass walls with varying degrees in pitch. A shallow pitch will suit a bungalow with a low roof, whereas a steep pitch is ideal for a taller, terraced house and will allow for extra natural light.

Conservatories are a popular choice across the UK as an easy way to add an extra room, space, and light to a home, and enjoy year-round sunshine, no matter the temperature outside. It’s the perfect way to convert a little outdoor space into a place to read, relax, entertain, or simply enjoy nature.

  • The Lean-to conservatory is the simplest style of conservatory, with clean lines that give it a contemporary look that make them a popular conservatory for modern houses. The simple shape gives you the maximum space in a highly economical style.

Whether your lean-to conservatory is traditional or contemporary, the style is perfect for properties that have restricted space under the eaves, like a bungalow, or have an area that’s too awkward to accommodate a conservatory. This is because the pitch of the roof on lean to conservatories can vary, so a shallow pitch can fit under a low bungalow roof and a steeper one would be ideal for a terraced house.

Do you need foundations for a lean to conservatory?

Despite a lean-to conservatory using a structural wall of your property, it still requires foundations. A conservatory with a proper foundation will last for many years, providing a solid structure that requires only basic maintenance. The depth of the conservatory’s foundations depends on where it is built and the type of soil beneath it. One of our surveyors will be able to assess this for you before you finalise your decisions. If you have questions about this, call us for a chat.

What is the difference between a lean-to and a conservatory?

Both standard and lean-to conservatories are very similar in design and function, with the main difference being in size. While a lean-to conservatory is ideal for those with less space, a standard conservatory is much bigger with more allowances for ornate detailing and roof design. A lean-to has a roof that varies in pitch degree, from a gentle to a steep slope. Both conservatories use large amounts of glass as their main material, which amplifies the amount of natural light that comes in for a beautiful way to enjoy the outdoors indoors.

What is a lean-to conservatory?

A lean-to conservatory is a variation on the traditional conservatory, but with a simpler design that consists of three glass walls coming from a main wall of your house. They are smaller than a standard conservatory, with a roof that varies in pitch degree and can be made from glass or tiles. For those with less outdoor space, a smaller home, or height restrictions, a lean-to conservatory is a fantastic alternative that expands your living space with minimal work.

Why choose a lean-to conservatory?

For properties with height restrictions or limited outdoor space, a lean-to conservatory is a great way to maximise space and light without having to go as big as a Victorian or Edwardian conservatory. You are still able to enjoy your garden without encroaching on too much of its space and can receive a large amount of natural light into your home. To see one for yourself, visit our showroom.
