Lantern Roof Conservatories

  • A lantern roof conservatory is a great way to transform any space. Adding a lantern roof conservatory to your room can bring light into your property and open up your space, making your home feel brighter and more modern.

The construction of a lantern roof conservatory is often known as a ‘wedding cake’ effect. This is due to the two tiers of the conservatory roof, which are constructed on two different levels. These levels are divided by a row of windows, resulting in a finished, modern look.

The heritage look of a lantern roof conservatory makes it perfect for a period property, similar to the Victorian and Edwardian conservatory design aesthetics. However, if you do not want a heritage look to your lantern roof, there are a range of more modern options available.

Even on dark winter days, you will find your space much lighter than it was before you installed a lantern roof. Your new conservatory will flood your space with light, creating a more inviting living space.

  • A Lantern Roof conservatory uses fewer bars to let in even more light. With an extended eaves beam, rather than a flat roof, the internal pelmet and external cornice create a stunning orangery roof style.

A decorative cornice is used outside to hide the guttering and create beautiful sight lines.
The internal insulated pelmet will enable you to enjoy better lighting and thermal performance. You can even opt for integrated spotlights and speakers to enhance your experience.

You can add a lantern roof conservatory onto an extension or an already existing conservatory, meaning the construction of a lantern roof is quicker and less intrusive than a whole new conservatory. Our weatherproof design also means you can be safe in the knowledge that your house will stay warm and dry whatever weather the seasons bring.

What is a lantern conservatory?

A lantern roof conservatory will make a great addition to your home. This type of conservatory is perfect if you want to add more light into your space without building a whole new conservatory. A lantern roof is inserted into a rectangular space in your ceiling, and the pitched glass panel is inserted to let more light into your room. They can be added to an already existing room (if you have a flat roof), an extension, or even a new sturdy conservatory. Often a decorative cornice is used to hide the guttering and give unobstructed views of the sky.

Do roof lanterns let in more light?

Roof lanterns can be a great way to let more light into your home. You will notice a significant difference in how light your room is, even on grey days. A roof lantern can let in as much as three times as much light as a regular window. We also offer glass that filters out UV rays, meaning that even on the brightest of days you and your furnishings will be protected from the sun’s glare.

Do roof lanterns lose heat?

A roof lantern may lose a little more heat than a regular tiled roof. However, at Adorn, we ensure we use the best double glazing in our panes to make your home as energy-efficient as possible. Alternatively, if you want to reduce heat loss further you could opt for triple glazed glass in your roof lantern, ensuring that heat loss is reduced as much as possible.

How do you clean a roof lantern?

Often our customers are concerned about the cleaning processes when purchasing a roof lantern. But it is easier than it looks. To clean a roof lantern, simply use a long-handled window cleaning product and soapy water. This will help you remove any dirt or debris that has built up on your roof lantern. If possible, don’t clean your roof lantern on sunny days as this increases the chances of streaking.

If you want an even easier way to clean your roof lantern then you could opt for self-cleaning glass, which will save you time and energy. For more information, contact us today for a free, no obligation quote.

Energy saving is incredibly important and so is keeping your fuel bills down. We are continuously looking for ways to make our projects energy efficient and one way is to choose new PVCu windows and doors. Not only will they help to keep your project warmer, they will reduce your energy loss.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.

These are just some of the many standards the products in our vast range conform to. Needless to say we take the quality of our products very seriously indeed.
